How Did The Bariatric Ball Start?

Len had the idea around 10 months into her journey. Covid struck, so it went on the back burner. As restrictions began to ease, she started to think seriously about it. She’d discovered a huge weight loss surgery community on Instagram that she fell in love with. It is the most accepting community she’d ever experienced, so thought, how nice would it be to bring everyone together for one evening.

The original event in April 2022 we booked 80 tickets and ended up increasing the venue capacity of 252 and sold out. The second event was held in April 2023 where we sold out again at a capacity of 400 people! These were both a huge success and have since built the foundation that is now used for each ball we organise.

One of the things most of us have struggled with throughout our lives is not feeling accepted. Not wanting to attend events because of our own confidence.. so why not be in a room full of people that understand exactly how you feel, but also the journey you are on and how your life has changed massively since surgery. At the previous ball’s we’ve had attendees come alone but leave with friends for life. We could not ask for anything better than that. That made it worth it.

So here we are with ball number 4. The numbers have been increased as has the interest.
We hope to see you all very soon!

LeninaI had my sleeve 3.5 years ago. For 7 years I battled with infertility – an absolutely heartbreaking part of my life. I was told repeatedly that my weight was an issue. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Endometriosis. I needed to lose weight. After trying every other way possible, I finally decided to have surgery and it is the best decision I’ve ever made. 3.5 years on I am at a very healthy weight. 8.5 stone down. 7 clothes sizes down, but more importantly I have my beautiful daughter Mia and son Arlo. It’s changed my life in every way possible.

Kelly –  After years of yo-yo dieting and being over-weight, I decided enough was enough. I had my bariatric surgery in August 2020. I have lost 6 stone  and maintained my weight loss for over 2 year’s. I’ve suffered with PCOS for several years as well as being borderline diabetic, but the surgery reversed most of this. It has changed my life in so many ways, not just physically but mentally too. I now have much more confidence in myself and my abilities. I have made so many amazing friends from the bariatric community.
